M. J. RICE, No. 9 S. Gillette, Tulsa, testified as follows:
I have lost two cars recently in Tulsa; the first one on the night of November 9th, 1920; it was taken from the garage No. 9 S. Gillette; it was a Ford touring car, 1920 model. I work for the Loose-Wiles Biscuit Company, and comply with the regulations of the Insurance Company, when a car is stolen, by first notifying the police and then spending up to $15.00 notifying the nearby towns by telephone; these were company cars, and after doing that, then it is up to the Insurance company as far as my company is concerned; I did not offer a reward, but presume the Insurance Company did. The loss of this car was reported by me the next morning to the police; my manager is J.D.Firestone. I have never heard anything of the car since. The last car was taken the 14th of March, 1921 about 7:30 in the evening from in front of my house, just about dark; I heard it start, and ran out and saw it disappearing about a block away, and immediately notified the Police; they sent two men out, and I talked to them a few minutes, and they left; I don't know where they went; I then went to a nearby drug store and called the Police station again, and authorized them to call nearby towns to the extent of $15.00, which they did according to telephone bills they turned in to my company; they called outlying towns, but no nearby towns; they called Sapulpa, Coffeyville, Bartlesville, Muskogee and Joplin; there were no real close towns called. I have never heard anything from the police about the car since. I lost a company car two or three years ago here from Third and Cincinnatti, a Ford touring car; it has never been found and no report has ever been made on any of the three cars.
