I remember the incident of a sewing machine being stolen here in Tulsa recently. I was needing some money, and I went to Brady, a taxi driver, and asked if he had an opening; he said he didn't but could fix it so I could make a little money; I met him that night about midnight and it a raining, and he said for me to come to a certain place and put a sewing machine on the running board of his car, and he would give me $5.00; I went to a man's porch and took a sewing machine and put it on the running board of the car, it was on North Peoria near a school house. I went away for a while and when I came back they had out a warrant for me for stealing this sewing machine. I went to Brady and told him I understood he was working for the police, and I told him he better return that sewing machine or else throw it in the river, and he said they didn't know anything about that machine; I said "well, I guess it's you and me for it." I called Brady next morning and he came and got me in a taxi and too me up to Bay Ward, and when I saw Bay Ward I says "if you fellows put me in jail, I am going to put you all there with me", and he says "What have we done?" I says "I know all about this stealing cars and changing the numbers on them"; instead of putting me in the city jail they turned me over to the county. I knew Brady was getting protection from the law; he said he had it right there with him and I told him all right I would just as soon pay him, and I paid him $3.00; I got morphine; I never had any trouble getting dope here when I had the money; there are plenty of places here you can get it; you could get a car load in Tulsa; I don't want to tell who they are for every time you get one of them, two spring up in their place. If you tell these things, pretty soon you get a bogus call to come to one of theses places some night, and you don't come back; Sandy McMillan's gang would see to it you didn't stay around here; you would get bumped off; he has lots of friends around here, and sooner or later they would get you where you couldn't do any more harm to them; he has plenty of money and is hooked up with the police department just like all the other road houses around here.
