Literacy Notes Participants of the 2012 Directors Retreat Nurse Rebecca dispenses “Vitameatavegamin” 2012 Literacy Retreat was Sweet (Just Like Candy) Literacy directors from twenty-three Oklahoma programs were “happy peppy people” at the 2012 Literacy Directors Retreat held recently at the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. Inspired by a 1952 I Love Lucy episode featuring “Vitameatavegamin,” literacy directors had fun as they shared ideas and tips about creating learning opportunities for students, keeping tutors happy, and creating good relationships with funders. Some of the great exchanges focused on learner book clubs, using the on-line version of News for You, establishing learner-friendly computer labs, and conducting program satisfaction surveys. Each director left the meeting with an “Rx for Literacy” (which looked surprisingly like a jar of M&Ms) guaranteed to help write exceptional grants, give amazing speeches, gather accurate statistics, and plan effective meetings.
