Once again we ex-tend our thanks to all par-ticipants from the pork in-dustry for their continued support and cooperation – especially the producers who provide data for the quarterly Hogs and Pigs sur-veys. Without their com-mitment and participation, this report would not be available. This publication is a compi-lation of related reports issued by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Ser-vice (NASS) in an effort to provide a complete source of statistics relevant to the pork industry. Though many of the statis-tics in this publication can be accessed through our website on a monthly basis (www.nass.usda.gov/ Publications), this Okla-homa Field Office summary will be issued each quarter following the release of the USDA-NASS Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report. Sows farrowed, at 185,000, were down 3 percent from the previous quarter. Oklahoma’s Hog Inventory estimated at 2.29 million head, was down 2 percent from last quarter and December 2010. 1 Year relates to when quarter ends. 2 Intentions for December 2011-February 2012 and March - May 2012. 3 December preceding year. PAGE 2 QUARTERLY PORK REVIEW COMMERCIAL SLAUGHTER November 2011 average monthly price for bar-rows and gilts was $64.50 per cwt, while the average price mid-December was $64.30. Sow monthly prices moved from $61.80 to $60.80 from October to November. All hog price was calculated at $64.40 for November. MONTHLY PRICES Oklahoma's average slaughter weight for hogs in November cal-culated at 281 pounds per head, up 6 pounds from October. VOLUME 3, ISSUE 1 PAGE 3 United States pork exports during the fourth quarter are forecasted to increase due to strong Asian demand. The United States pork industry is expected to ship 1.4 billion pounds of pork products to foreign destina-tions during the fourth quarter of 2011, an increase of more than 22 percent from a year ago. The total exports for 2011 are expected to reach around 5.1 billion pounds, a 21 percent increase over 2010 exports. Pork exports have shown a dramatic in-crease during 2011. When comparing October 2011 to October 2010, the United States ex-ported 42 percent more pork in October 2011. The current total pork exports for this year (Jan- Oct) is 4.2 billion pounds, compared to 2.2 bil-lion pounds for the same time frame for 2005.
