COLD WEATHER STARTING

Getting a diesel engine to start
reliably in cold weather has always
been a problem. Fortunately there
is a vast array of remedies
available which are specifically
designed to improve the startability
and extend the service intervals of
your diesel powered equipment.
The most widely accepted practice is
to preheat the coolant that is
contained in the engine block
itself.
Several devices on the market
accomplish the task, but the most
popular is the direct immersion
heater. This style of heater
becomes part of the engine itself
with the heating element completely
immersed in coolant, making it the
most efficient style you can buy.
Because 100% of the heat it produces
goes directly into the engine, the
heat loss is minimal compared to
externally mounted styles.
Due to the differences in engine
design, immersion style heaters are
custom designed for each engine and
will only mount in a specific place.
