OKLAHOMA BOARD OF ARCHITECTS, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS And REGISTERED INTERIOR DESIGNERS P. O. BOX 53430 OKLAHOMA CITY, OK 73152 The REGULATOR 'Our mission is to protect the citizens of Oklahoma by regulating the professions...& promoting quality practice" SPRING 2013 LEGAL NEWS AFFECTING YOU TEMPORARY LICENSE/REGISTRATION FOR MILITARY & SPOUSES In compliance with SB 1863, the Board is required to issue temporary licensing or registration for military personnel and their spouses. The Board is using the 1984 NCARB standard and the original provision for landscape architects, along with the original standards for Registered Interior Designers. A similar standard is currently used by NCARB's Broadly Experienced Architect (BEA) and Broadly Experienced Foreign Architect (BEFA) to determine certification qualification. Additionally, a majority of our licensees were licensed on these standards and gives us a legally defensible system to make these determinations. This system is now used as our Equivalent Standards that any person may use as a path for licensure. A temporary license, registration, certificate of authority or certificate of title may be issued by the Executive Director while receiving all documents. These documents are to determine if the person or entity is current, active and in good standing as a licensee, registrant or is a qualified as an entity in another state while completing specific requirements in this state. Passage of required examinations must be verified. The temporary status for the applicant or entity is sixty (60) days from the date of issue while submitting all documents for qualifying by standard or equivalents adopted by the Board. The equivalent standards for registration are available on our website @ www.ok.gov/architects. The permanent license, registration, certificate of authority or certificate of title is still required to be approved when complete by the Secretary- Treasurer of the Board, otherwise, the temporary license, registration or authority will be revoked. Any and all questions regarding these process should be directed to the Executive Director. When the Board identifies a building under construction without an architect, as required by O.S. 59, Section 46.21b, we begin a process to have the State Fire Marshal's Office put a stop work order on the facility. Once in place, it can NOT be continued until: 1. An architect is hired and a contract is submitted to this Board. Our goal is to use whatever methods necessary to determine what has been built, is it up to code and what issues need to be addressed. 2. All engineering systems are to be signed, sealed, dated and implemented as well as the architect's. 3. Fire Marshal's list of exceptions and comments are to be implemented. 4. Architect is to follow project through to completion ensuring compliances. 5. Architect is to write the Board documenting what has been done. The Board does not close any case until the steps above have been completed and the building receives an occupancy permit, REMINDER: Use the term "Record Drawings" and they may be prepared by the contractor or architect to reflect known changes visually observed by the contractor as accurately as possible from construction. RENEW SOON! ALL licenses, registrations, certificate of authority, certificate of title must all be renewed by June 30. 2013. Statements will be mailed by May 1st. Be sure to update your addresses.
