OKLAHOMA MINER TRAINING INSTITUTE 1301 West Main, Wilburton, OK 74578 PH# 918/465-1872 or 465-1799 FAX# 918/465-4490 Newsletter The training offered by OMTI meets the requirements of Mine Safety and Health Administration to keep mining operations in compliance with MSHA regulations. Because of a production fee paid by State permitted mine operators, no tuition is required. However, before OMTI can travel outside a 75 mile radius of Wilburton, a minimum of 10 students is required. OMTI will continue to help any newly permitted mining operation to get in compliance with any state or federal training regulations. If you would like to attend or send an employee, please call at the number noted above. In an attempt to be even more responsive to our clients, we are offering training classes *once a month in Oklahoma City and once a quarter in Tishomingo. The classes in OKC will be conducted at the Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech at 7301 W. Reno Ave., and the classes in Tishomingo will be held at Murray State College – One Murray Drive in Building 14. By offering these multiple locations, we feel that mining companies in all parts of the state can more easily attend the required training. If you are interested in attending or sending your employees, please register by calling OMTI at 918/465-1872 or 918/465-1799. FATALITIES YEAR-TO-DATE Total: 30 (as of 11/18/09) Coal: 14 M/NM: 16 Although the fatalities for this year are below the 2008 numbers, thirty is still too many. That number tells us that 30 miners will not be around to share Christmas and 2010 with family and friends. Please be watchful on the job for potential accidents and always practice safe job habits. For descriptions of the accidents, go to www.msha.gov. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! As 2009 comes to an end, the OMTI staff wants to sincerely thank you for your continued support. We provided training for all of the Oklahoma companies that requested it, plus many contractors and out-of-state miners. It is our wish that your companies and families have a wonderful holiday season and a safe and prosperous New Year. INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS The winter season will be here soon, so please call OMTI if weather conditions prohibit safe travel. We are a safety organization and our personnel are not allowed to travel on ice or dangerous roads. We will reschedule if road conditions warrant cancellation of classes. NO TOBACCO POLICY We have been alerted by Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech in Oklahoma City and Murray State College in Tishomingo that a very strict no-tobacco policy is enforced. It includes smoking and any kind of tobacco anywhere on campus including the parking lots. If we do not follow their rules, we will not be able to continue using their facilities. CLASS SCHEDULES Unless OMTI tells you otherwise, all classes that we teach will begin at 8:00 a.m. Recently, we have had a lot of students come in 15 to 45 minutes late. This disturbs other students as well as the instructor and if the student is not in class before 8:15 a.m., he/she will be asked to reschedule. BLASTING CLASSES OMTI offers initial Blasting Certification classes several times a year and Blasting Refresher classes monthly. Please remember to bring a notepad and calculator to class. We have a few, but not enough for a large class.
