It has become more than just a promotional ceremony as witnessed in the most recent such event held on July 3. The traditional promotional ceremonies are back, and in a big way under the leadership of the current administration who enthusiastically support such momentous celebrations. The anticipated turnout dictated that a larger venue be secured to welcome family, friends and co-workers of those who would be honored. The gathering took place a few miles from the Dept. of Public Safety complex in a building loaned by the National Guard to suit the needs of the large crowd. Commissioner Mike Thompson and Col. Kerry Pettingill greeted those in attendance and one by one those who received promotions were called up with their families as their orders were read by Trp. Betsy Randolph in the background. Thompson encouraged each to speak in addition to introducing family members and friends who were there in support. Pettingill commented on each recipient and assisted with the pinning of the badges and the collar brass. The ceremony was filled with stories, appreciation and lots of hugs to help commemorate the special occasion. Promotional ceremonies return to original tradition
