Bruce Ackerman, Editor - CDLEC Groundbreaking Commemorative Issue - The final three OMPA sponsored area meetings will be held February 27th in Altus at the Friendship Inn, March 6th in Duncan at the Simmons Center and March 13th in Edmond at the OMPA office. All meetings start at 6:15 pm with dinner provided and conclude at 8:30 pm. City officials, staff and spouses are invited to attend these meetings. Those attending the meetings will hear presentations by OMPA staff on OMPA’s power supply program, Charles D. Lamb cont pg 7 Area meetings to be held in Altus, Duncan, Edmond Energy Center construction, substation and transmission projects, review of Operations for 2013, Southwest Power Pool day-ahead markets, Demand and Energy Efficiency Program (DEEP), the loop leasing program, and the joint billing system program. Questions will be addressed by OMPA staff. The area meetings not only provide the member cities with information on OMPA activities, but also the chance to meet and ask questions of Authority staff one-on-one. 2014 MESO Public Power Conference to be held April 27-29 at Embassy Suites in Norman Tim Blodgett, nationally recognized public power leader and president and CEO of Hometown Connections, is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the MESO 2014 Public Power Conference. Hometown Connections is APPA’s utility services subsidiary. A trusted provider of sound advice and quality product/ services, Hometown Connections is a national resource for community-owned utilities. The conference, which is presented by MESO, OMPA and GRDA, will be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center, 2501 North Conference Drive, in Norman April 27-29. The theme for the 2014 conference is “HOMETOWN POWER” and will highlight the contributions public power makes to the communities they serve as well as offer participants valuable knowledge on a wide variety of topics. MESO’s annual Public Power Conference is an excellent networking and educational opportunity for everyone involved with public power. It is the premier gathering of leaders of municipal electric systems across the state of Oklahoma and neighboring states. By participating in the 2014 conference, you will have the opportunity to connect with key decision makers, see what’s new in the industry, network with new friends and reconnect with old friends. The conference is designed for public power representatives of all types, including administrators, billing department heads, customer service professionals, line superintendents, lineworkers and all those who deal with the public and those that lead your public power utility. The breakout sessions at the conference have three separate tracks, one for superintendents, another for lineworkers and a third for customer service. Jim McAvoy, OMPA Manager of Engineering Services, and Larry Unnerstall, OMPA Distribution Planning Engineer, will be conducting a session on justifying and financing system improvements.
