A pilot program to reach limited income seniors in Rogers and N 0- wata Counties, began in July, 2011. Statistically, these two counties have the highest number of seniors who qualify for assistance and are not aware a program is available to assist them with the cost of medications. Grand Gateway met with the Ministerial Alliance in Nowata and Claremore to identify the .. ~~~ .. best way to provide important information to the seniors of their congregations. Although this pilot program is focused on providing information about Medicare Part D Extra Help for prescription drug costs, we anticipate in the future, using this avenue to distribute information, such as, Medicare Part D Open Enrollment and Caregiver Services. Each community is different and has identified what works best for them. Nowata has chosen to have a special event where the seniors come together for lunch and have speakers. It will be hosted by area churches at the Hillside Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Claremore has chosen to have flyers inserted in their church bulletins and are working on other ideas for their congregations. We are excited about the success of this initiative and will becontacting other churches in Northeast Oklahoma to partner with in the future. We are very appreciative for the cooperation of the churches willing to help us inform their senior population.
