Purpose	Although oil and natural gas have always been an integral part of the Oklahoma economy, few are aware of their history in the state, and fewer still are familiar with the underlying issues that ultimately control the industry's health. This publication is an effort to provide the tools necessary for a non-technical audience to understand these important topics. Using a reversal of the geological axiom that states "the present is the key to the past" knowledge of our energy past and how we arrived at our present situation is crucial to understanding what promises to be an unsettled energy future.
