UCO Campaign Names Record Goal With Dramatic Kick-Start Results Having never dared to dream so big in the fundraising arena, the campus was elated in late September when the UCO Foundation announced the kickoff of a comprehensive $40 million campaign with $30.4 million already raised! UCO President Don Betz, Ph.D., announced the fundraising totals at an evening event Sept. 25 in the Grand Ballroom of the Nigh University Center. During the announcement, he referenced a Nelson Mandela quote displayed on campus: It is impossible until it is done. “We know now that not only is it possible, but almost complete,” Betz told the celebratory crowd. “We are the University of Central Oklahoma, and we have stepped up. World, here we come,” he added. Called the Always Central campaign, the $40 million fund-raising effort is intended to support scholarships, teaching, innovative programming and facilities, and to offer op-tions for future planned giving. Plans include funding the CHK|Central Boathouse on the Oklahoma River’s “Boat-house Row.” Funds also are being raised for the completion of Central’s Old North, the oldest building constructed for higher education in the state that sits in need of $6 million to finish its interior space. Always Central campaign co-chairs are Central alumni Mar-tha Burger, senior vice president of human and corporate resources at Chesapeake Energy, and the husband-wife team of Lee and Sherry Beasley. Lee Beasley, D.D.S., is president of Endodontics Associates, while Sherry Beasley is president of Interior Images Inc. “We know that by harnessing the generosity of our alumni and friends in an unprecedented way, we will be able to realize a brilliant future once unimagined,” President Betz later said. “Together, we are creating opportunities we never thought possible.” For more information about the Always Central campaign and how to join the effort, visit www.alwayscentral.org. At the Sept. 25 kickoff of the Always Central campaign, UCO President Don Betz announces to cheers and applause that $30.4 million has been raised toward a $40 million fundraising goal, the most daring in Central history.
