In 2006, Justice O’Connor founded the iCivics program to promote civic learning. The iCivics website con-tains free lesson plans, games, and interactive modules that engage the student both inside and outside the classroom. Polls show the average citizen lacks basic knowledge regarding the three branches of government, democracy, and the US Constitution. This trend is a major concern to Justice O’Connor and civic leaders across the nation. The OBA wholeheartedly supports Justice O’Connor in her endeavor to advance citizenship education in our nation. April 24, 2012, the Oklahoma Bar Association and Oklahoma City Univer-sity will proudly host Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. This event will kick off OCU’s civic learning partnership with Oklahoma educators. 10:00 am-11:30 am, Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma City Attendees will enjoy a conversation with Justice O’Connor and Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven Taylor. Justice O’Connor will dedi-cate a segment toward answering student questions. Schools are invited to submit the two best questions from your students. Selected questions will be presented to Justice O’Connor for her response. For consideration questions must be submitted by April 4, 2012. This session will be avail-able live by webcast and posted online for later viewing. 1:00 pm, Reed Center, Midwest City Law School for Educators Registration 1:30 pm-5:00 pm, Reed Center During the afternoon Law School for Educators will be held. Speakers will cover a variety of law-related topics, covering issues such as free speech, search & seizure, and the court system. 7:00 pm-11:00 pm, Reed Center The banquet, A Partnership for Civic Education:iCivics in Oklahoma will be held in honor of Justice O’Connor, tickets may be purchased for $30.
