A breakdown of these cases shows 64.2% (5,804 cases) AIDS cases and 35.8% (3,240 cases) HIV cases. Of the cumulative cases, 43.3% (3,917 cases) were known to have died, a 2.4% increase compared to 2011. Cumulative cases means the total number of cases of HIV or AIDS reported or diagnosed since the beginning of HIV/AIDS surveillance in 1982. In Oklahoma, cumulative HIV/AIDS cases include persons who have died. BY RACE/ETHNICITY The race breakdown for the 9,044 cumulative cases is as follows: Whites ‐ 63.3% (5,727) Black/African Americans ‐ 21.6% (1,950) Hispanic ‐ 6.1% (553) Asian/Pacific Islanders ‐ 0.6% (58) American Indians/Alaskan Natives ‐ 6.3% (572) Multiple races ‐ 2.0% (184) BY SEX Of the 9,044 cumulative HIV/AIDS cases, 85.0% (7,684 cases) were male, while only 15.0% (1,360 cases) were female. White males had the highest number of cumulative cases (5,032 cases; 55.6%), followed by Black males (1,548 cases; 17.1%), White females (695 cases; 7.7%), and Black fe‐males (402 cases; 4.4%). BY AGE The 30‐39 years age group accounted for the largest proportion of cases (3,353; 37.1%), fol‐lowed by the 20‐29 years age group (2,860; 31.6%), and the 40‐49 years age group (1,679; 18.6%). Almost 3% (259; 2.9%) of the cases were teenagers (13‐19 years), while less than 1% (79; 0.9%) were children under the age of 13 years. The 50‐59 years age group accounted for 6.7% (605 cases), while 2.1% (194 cases) were 60 years or older. BY MODE OF TRANSMISSION Over half (4,861; 53.7%) of the cumulative cases reported men who have sex with men (MSM) only as a risk; injection drug use (IDU) accounted for the next highest number of cases (1,027; 11.4%). Persons who reported both MSM and IDU risks accounted for approximately 11% (943; 10.4%) of the cases. A similar percentage of indi‐viduals reported a risk of heterosexual sex (930; 10.3%). Only 1.5% (136) of cases reported receiv‐ing blood or blood product as their risk factor, and less than 1% (50; 0.6%) of cases were perina‐tally exposed. Approximately 12.1% (1,097) of cumulative cases were considered unknown risk, no identified risk (NIR), or no reported risk (NRR).
