Jackson County’s leading causes of death were heart disease, cancer, and stroke. Jackson County had the highest rate of deaths due to Alzheimer’s disease and the 4th worst rate of deaths due to stroke in the state. Disease Rates Jackson County’s prevalence of diabetes was one of the highest in the state, more than double the national rate. Jackson County’s prevalence of asthma was third lowest in the state. Risk Factors, Behaviors & Socioeconomic Factors Jackson County had the 2nd largest percentage of seniors who received a pneumonia vaccination and of adults who had recently visited the dentist. More than 86% of pregnant females received early prenatal care, ranking Jackson County 6th in the state for this indicator. Jackson County had the 6th largest percentage of low birth weight births. Jackson County had the 5th smallest percentage of adults without health care coverage. Changes from Previous Report Mortality rates increased 16% for chronic lower respi-ratory disease and 22% for nephritis. The mortality rate decreased 17% for diabetes. Prevalence among adults increased 72% for diabetes and 17% for obesity. Adult smokers increased 23%. Adults experienced 41% fewer limited activity days and 26% fewer poor physical health days.
