United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service Oklahoma Hog and Pig Report Oklahoma Hog Inventory Down 3 Percent from March Oklahoma: The June 1, 2014 Oklahoma hog and pig inventory, at 1.91 million head, was 15 percent lower than June 2013. The number of breeding hogs totaled 430 thousand head, up 20 thousand head from last year. The June 1 market hog inventory was down 19 percent from a year ago at 1.48 million head, 77 percent of the total hog and pig inventory. The March-May 2014 Oklahoma pig crop totaled 1.78 million head, 7 percent below last year. Pigs per litter averaged 9.6, down 7 percent from the previous year. During March through May 2014, 185 thousand sows farrowed in Oklahoma, unchanged from last year. United States: The U.S. inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1, 2014, is estimated at 62.1 million head, down 5 percent from a year ago and down 1 percent from March 1, 2014. The breeding hog inventory, at 5.86 million head, was down slightly from last year but up slightly from the previous quarter. Market hog inventory, at 56.3 million head, was down 5 percent from last year and down 1 percent from last quarter. The U.S. pig crop for March-May 2014, at 27.4 million, was down 5 percent from 2013. U.S. producers intend to have 2.89 million sows farrow during the June - August 2014 quarter, unchanged from the actual farrowings during the same period in 2013, but down 2 percent from 2012. Intended farrowings for September-November 2014, at 2.88 million sows, are up 4 percent from 2013 and unchanged from 2012.
