Ombudsman Volunteer Training Scheduled: Do you have a caring
heart and a desire to help others? The Long Term Care Ombudsman program is
currently looking for new volunteers. Volunteers visit long term care facilities and
advocate for residents rights. Through your visits with the residents, you will learn
what concerns they have and be able to help resolve issues they may be experiencing.
The next 2-day volunteer training will be June 24-25, 2014 at the Canadian Valley
Technology Center in room Seminar A, 1401 Michigan Ave, Chickasha, OK from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact ASCOG ombudsman supervisors, Ruben Sotelo (direct:
580.736.7975) or Heather Sladek (direct: 580.736.7974) for additional
information.
REAP: CED staff and our IT provider have been working diligently to make this
year’s on-line application much easier. Additionally, the program has many changes
intended to improve the program. – A huge change can often cause potential applicants
not turn in REAP applications because they are either too busy or too intimidated to
make application and do not have a "grant writer." ASCOG CED staff can now write
an application for you for a $150 fee. If the application is not funded, there is no charge
for writing subsequent grants the following year for the same project. This fee must be
paid for by the applicant and not out of REAP funds. However, $150 is not a bad
investment for a grant that averages over $40,000. Having ASCOG CED staff write
your grants does not guarantee approval, but it does ensure that your grant is well-written
where the scorers can fully understand the importance of the project to your
community/county. – New REAP grants will have stricter time requirements. Projects
must begin within 6 months and be completed by June 30, 2016. – The entire
application process has been revised. Between now and Aug. 24, 2014, applicants
must: (1) select an eligible project that can be fully funded including leveraged dollars,
(2) get cost estimates from an eligible source and (3) take formal board action
including approving making the application for the project, approving a 5-year Capital
Improvement Plan, and approving any cash or in-kind leverage from the applicant
agency. Keep in mind that these matches are not required, but do figure into the
scoring system. A complete guide containing all of the directions will be published on

our website www.ascog.org on June 2, 2014. – Our intent is to set up every
potential applicant with a username and password where they can easily access the
REAP application website. Once there, the application is really straightforward and
self-explanatory. – However, PLEASE call CED staff if you have any questions.

Public Safety: As the summer begins to heat up it is time to clean up! Please help by
removing all fire wood and related materials away from the home to minimize fire
spread should a grass fire be close to the property. All departments in the ASCOG area
are standing ready for the summer season. Training and equipment readiness has been a
top priority. Please support your local departments with their fund raiser efforts.
