United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service Oklahoma Crop Production State Cotton Forecast Down 15 Percent from August Oklahoma: Production prospects increased for corn and grain sorghum during the past month, while the production of cotton and peanuts are down from the August 1 forecast. Production of corn for grain is forecast at 40.5 million bushels, up 3 percent from last month but down 10 percent from last year. An average yield of 150 bushels per acre is expected from 270,000 harvested acres. Cotton production is forecast at 320,000 480-pound bales, down 15 percent from last month but up 108 percent from last year. An average yield of 731 pounds per acre is expected, up 140 pounds from 2013. There were 210,000 harvested acres. Production of grain sorghum is forecast at 21.8 million bushels, up 3 percent from last month and up 47 percent from 2013. An average yield of 66.0 bushels per acre is expected from 330,000 harvested acres. Peanut production is forecast at 54.4 million pounds, down 3 percent from a month ago and down 8 percent from last year. An average yield of 3,400 pounds per acre is expected from 16,000 harvested acres. Soybean production is forecast at 9.1 million bushels, unchanged from August 1 but down 9 percent from 2013. An average yield of 31.0 bushels per acres is expected from 295,000 harvested acres. United States: Corn production is forecast at 14.4 billion bushels, up 3 percent from last month and up 3 percent from last year. Yields are expected to average 171.7 bushels per acre, up 4.3 bushels from the August 1 forecast and up 12.9 bushels from 2013. All cotton production is forecast at 16.5 million 480-pound bales, down 6 percent from a month ago but up 28 percent from last year's 12.9 million bales. Yield is expected to average 803 pounds per harvested acre, down 17.0 pounds from August and down 18.0 pounds from 2013. Production of grain sorghum is forecast at 430.1 million bushels, up slightly from last month and up 11 percent from last year. Yield is forecast at 67.2 bushels per acre, up 7.6 bushels from 2013. Peanut production is forecast at 5.0 billion pounds, down 2 percent from August but up 19 percent from last year's crop. Yields are expected to average 3,800 pounds per acre, down 164 pounds from last month and down 206 pounds from last year. Soybean production is forecast at 3.9 billion bushels, up 3 percent from August and up 19 percent from last year. Yields are expected to average 46.6 bushels per acre, up 1.2 bushels per acre from last month, and up 3.3 bushels from 2013.
