United States Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service Oklahoma Hog and Pig Report Oklahoma Hog Inventory Up 10 Percent From Last Year Oklahoma: The March 1, 2015 Oklahoma hog and pig inventory, at 2.15 million head, was 10 percent higher than March 2014. The number of breeding hogs totaled 440 thousand head, up 10 thousand head from last year. The March 1 market hog inventory was up 13 percent from a year ago at 1.71 million head, 80 percent of the total hog and pig inventory. The December-February 2015 Oklahoma pig crop totaled 1.92 million head, 17 percent above last year. Pigs per litter averaged 10.1, up 10 percent from the previous year. During December through February 2015, 190 thousand sows farrowed in Oklahoma, up 6 percent from last year. United States: The U.S. inventory of all hogs and pigs on March 1, 2015, is estimated at 65.9 million head, up 7 percent from a year ago but down slightly from December 1, 2014. The breeding hog inventory, at 5.98 million head, was up 2 percent from last year and up 1 percent from the previous quarter. Market hog inventory, at 60.0 million head, was up 8 percent from last year but down slightly from last quarter. The U.S. pig crop for December-February 2015, at 28.8 million, was up 9 percent from 2014. U.S. producers intend to have 2.87 million sows farrow during the March - May 2015 quarter, up 2 percent from the actual farrowings during the same period in 2014. Intended farrowings for June-August 2015, at 2.93 million sows, are down 2 percent from 2014.
