The Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority’s (OMPA) newest power plant was dedicated in front of a large crowd on Friday, June 19 with public comments from U.S. Representative Frank Lucas and Oklahoma Secretary of Energy & Environment Michael Teague, among others. The Charles D. Lamb Energy Center is the first greenfield plant solely owned and operated by OMPA. Located at 4250 W. Doolin Ave. in Ponca City, it became commercially operational on May 16. Fueled by natural gas, it is capable of generating 103 megawatts. The plant was named after the Mayor of Edmond, who is the longest-serving board chairman in the Authority’s history, having assumed the role since Oct. 11, 2001. “I am truly humbled by the board’s action to bestow this honor on me,” Lamb said during the dedication presentation. “Knowing this energy center, with its potential to grow, will be serving the OMPA member cities for decades to come, long after my service stops, and it will have my name on it, is a truly awesome feeling.” Lucas, the Representative for District 3, commended the Authority for using state resources to add to its generation portfolio. “This facility is a wise investment and a wise commitment by the OMPA leadership,” Congressman Lucas said. “All the public power communities in my district know that, when you flip the switch, because of Continued on Page 2
