Here are some important things to remember about

• Assign lifeguard duties; don’t
just assume someone is
watching.
• Avoid distractions and stay
close by.
• If you have to leave the pool
area, take your child with
you.

safety and have them take
swimming lessons.
• Take toys out of the pool
when not in use.
• Check new pool areas for
safety fencing and gates.
• Use floatation devices
sparingly and only when
you’re with your child.
• Enforce safety rules.
