Share Our Vision That All May Read
The Oklahoma Library for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped provides free services
to Oklahomans who are blind or visually
impaired and those with reading disabilities or
physical limitations that make it difficult to use
standard print.
Audio and Braille Books
The Library provides
books, magazines and
other materials in audio
formats or in Braille and
the audio equipment
needed to read these
materials at no cost to
patrons. There is no
charge to mail materials
back to the Library.
Librarians and Internet Access
You are encouraged to discuss your reading preferences
with our professional librarians, who may be reached
in Oklahoma City at 405-521‑3514, toll free at 800-
523‑0288 or TTY/TDD at 405-521‑4672, Monday
through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or via email through
our website. Our librarians can explain the formats that
are available and order reading materials for you. Items
listed in the Library’s catalog may also be searched,
requested, or reserved online and thousands of titles may
be downloaded from BARD - Braille and Audio Reading

Reading Equipment
You may check out reading equipment that can be
used for as long as you need it. If something is broken
or doesn’t work, call 405-521‑3514, toll free at 800-
523‑0288 or TTY/TDD at 405-521‑4672, Monday
through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please return the
equipment when you no longer need it.

AIM - Accessible Instructional Materials Center
The AIM Center maintains a central depository of
Braille and large print textbooks and other specialized
instructional materials for loan to Oklahoma students
who cannot use regular print. The program serves
children birth through 12th grade who attend public and
private schools in Oklahoma, or receive services from
SoonerStart, and are blind or visually impaired; have a
physical disability that makes it difficult to use regular print
books and school materials; or have a medically diagnosed
learning disability
that makes it difficult
to use regular print.

NFB NEWSLINE is a free newspaper reading
service. Selected local and national newspapers are
accessed toll free by telephone. Applications for
the service are available by calling the Library, 405-

405-521‑4672, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to
5 p.m., or by visiting our website at http://www.
library.state.ok.us.
The Library provides custom materials in Braille
such as brochures, restaurant menus, manuals,
magazines and books for a nominal fee. They
are yours to keep. For more information about

The Hill is our vibrant sensory garden and walking
path specifically designed for people with disabilities.
There your olfactory senses will be enriched with
the aroma of fragrant and touchable flowers and
herbs and you will experience an atmosphere of
rustling leaves, birdsong, tinkling wind chimes and a
bubbling fountain as you take a minute to relax and
enjoy the moment.

The Oklahoma Talking Information Service,
OTIS, is a free Internet radio service with 24 hour
access to programming. Programs include reports from
Oklahoma newspapers and magazines including the
Oklahoma Gazette, the Lawton Constitution, the Stillwater
Newspress, Tulsa People Magazine, Short Story Hour

The Recording Studio produces audio books and local
magazines by Oklahoma authors, about Oklahomans, and
about Oklahoma topics. Special requests by patrons are
also done. Three of the books produced by the studio were

If you would like to support special projects not
covered in our annual budget, join Oklahomans
for Special Library Services. Examples of projects
funded by OSLS include sponsoring volunteer
recognition activities, staff training, providing
hospitality for our volunteers, purchasing special
Braille and recording equipment and assisting with
